Poll Results

Here are your votes for your favourite Thanksgiving food:

     1 vote turkey
     1 vote stuffing
2 votes mashed potatoes with gravy
     2 votes yams/sweet potatoes
     2 votes pumpkin pie

My vote was for mashed potatoes with gravy. I could skip everything else and just eat that for Thanksgiving. When I was a kid, Mum would make Yorkshire pudding for Thanksgiving and they have a natural little dip at the top that perfectly holds a big spoonful of gravy. Yum! It's all about the gravy. The rest of it is only a means of getting the gravy into your mouth.

Check out my new poll. Actually, it's kind of  a trivia question. No cheating!

Mashed potatoes and gravy for me too!! When I'm having a really bad day I'll make it for myself so that I feel better - total comfort food for me!!

It's a comfort food for me too, but the only problem is that it takes so long to make mashed potatoes. I get far too impatient to make them very often.

Oh, come one, Robyn. What do you mean it takes long to make mashed potatoes?! If you cut the potatoes into small chunks, the whole process takes less time than it takes to cook brown rice!:-)

Yes, but with rice you through it in a pot and that's it. WIth potatoes, you have to cut them and watch them carefully so they don't over cook and get mushy. Then you have to mash them or pull out the Kitchenaid mixer and beat them for a while so there are no lumps in it. And, to cut back on calories, I don't use butter or milk. I dissolve a veggie bouillon cube in hot water and pour that in the potatoes for flavour.

So, next time I want mashed potatoes, can I just call you, Terhi?

Sure! I usually make a big batch so we can definetely share. :-) I do add margarine and full-fat soy milk in mine, so those calories... But it's worth it!
Actually I'm going to make some tomorrow, as it's Emma's turn to decide what's for dinner and she wants mashed potatoes and tofu nuggets.
