B.C. (Part II)

We managed to split our visit between the island and the mainland. Here are some photos that I took at the beginning and the end of our trip on the mainland.

There were two things that the kids really wanted to do while we were in B.C. One was to ride the Skytrain. We hopped on in Surrey and took the Seabus all the way over to the North Shore.

We got to watch several planes land and take off from the water.

I got to eat at my favourite place in the Lonsdale Quay...

 and drink my favourite drink.

The second thing that we had to do was go to the beach. We decided to go to White Rock again is it the closest one.

B.C. (part I)

Over Spring Break we drove up north to B.C. to visit family and see some sites. We were gone for eight days, although two of those days were spent in the car driving back and forth. I am finding that going through my photos and wanting to talk about all the wonderful things we did is quite overwhelming so I'm going to break our trip down into several posts. They won't be in any particular order or have a theme. I just want to be able to share with you the fun and beauty of my home. So, here goes Part I.

We were able to spend several days on Vancouver Island. It is absolutely gorgeous there and feels other-worldly. The island has a magical quality to it that is hard to explain. It's so green and the landscape seems to continuously move with rolling hills and snow capped mountains. While we were there, everything was blooming. There were daffodils every where, the heather bushes were exploding with tiny purple flowers and there were plenty of primroses. I kept expecting to find fairies fluttering about.

One of the days we were there, we went for a little hike to Englishman Falls. It was spectacular. The moss on the ground was so soft and spongy to walk on and covered rocks and trees in a thick blanket of green.

Randomness

I seem to be taking a lot of pictures lately, but nothing of anything significant or exciting. It seems to be of random things that are happening around here.

The other day one of our cats caught this mole thing and tried to bring it into the house. Thankfully it was in the morning before Will left for work so he was able to get it out. I was hoping it would make its way back into the fields, but instead it hung out by the patio. I was too afraid to move it because, look at those teeth! Will managed to get it moved when he got home from work.

Penelope watching the world go by from the top of her post.

This morning we woke up to some frost. The back fields looked so pretty.

There were two geese back there this morning. It was so cold that when they honked, you could see their breath.

Will's indoor growing operation. The tomatoes are already coming up.

Inside the greenhouse, seeds are already sprouting. I'm not sure what these are. Maybe lettuce and carrots. We are already looking forward to having a good harvest this year.

Busy Week

This week has felt just like spring. In the afternoon I leave the back door open and breathe in the fresh air. Some birds kept flitting in and out of the bird bath, getting drinks and a bath. I had to patiently wait until the birds came to the bath to take a few photos before they flew off again. They kept coming back all afternoon.
 Penelope waited patiently too.

On Monday, Kyla and Liam both got awards from school. Kyla's was for Respect and Liam's was for Academics.
Kyla with her best friend Marley and her teacher, Miss Fry.

Last night we went to the hockey game. The Idaho Steelheads played against the Alaska Aces and won 6-5 after 4th period overtime and a shootout.
