Our Trip, part III

Botanical Beach and French Beach

We made it to the beach on the south west coast of the island. I had never been there before and was excited to see the ocean again. We made the trek to Port Renfrew, the end of the road before Port San Juan juts into the island. Botanical Beach is at the very end and is known for its amazing tidal pools. Of course, we got there at high tide so we didn't get to see any of the beautiful aquatic wildlife left behind at low tide. We stayed for a little while exploring the narrow strip of beach, until it started pouring with rain. I'm talking the large drops that smack you in the face kind of rain. We made the 1 km walk back and by the time we made it to the car it had stopped raining and the sun was coming out again. That's how it is in a rain forest - unpredictable.

This deer came right up to the edge of the beach. She was so close to us and Moira and I watched her for a while. She didn't seem to mind that she had a fascinated audience.

Raindrops in the pool.

That night we camped out at French Beach Provincial Park. In the morning we took a walk down to the beach. Again, we hit it at high tide. At least it didn't rain on us.

One of many pictures we have of Kyla crying on our trip.

Liam loved rearranging the beach. He sat quietly for a long time moving rocks from one spot to another.
